Monitoring of "Fodder production and pasture improvement as a COVID-19 response measure" project
On July 27-29, we carried out monitoring of the beneficiary communities of the "Fodder production and pasture improvement as a COVID-19 response measure" project that is implemented with the financial support of The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the Ministry of Economy, RA. We visited 11 settlements of Gegharkunik marz, Gandzak, and Sarukhan, Tsaghkashen, Lanjaghbyur, Vardenik, Artsvanist, Makenis, Karchaghbyur, Khachaghbyur, Lusakunk, Lchavan, and in the enlarged communities of Amasia of Shirak marz and Gyulagarak of Lori marz.
In 13 beneficiary settlements, the 300 ha of waterless, abandoned, uncultivated arable lands were planted with sainfoin. Sowing was carried out with the implementation of new proposed technologies: application of milling and extra-root fertilization. During the monitoring, we noted that the seedlings sprouted evenly and were in good condition.
A significant result is that with the help of the project, the restored exploitation of 300 ha of arable land has lost its purpose value. Over the next two years, 326 beneficiary farms will receive a bountiful harvest of sainfoin. Beneficiary farmers, with significantly improved arable land, can provide a stable income for their families.
