Visiting Gandzak Experimental Arable Lands
On August 10, 23 farmers from Tsaghkashen, Sarukhan, Lanjaghbyur, and Gandzak villages visited the experimental arable lands of Gandzak village, Gegharkunik marz. The visit was within the framework of the "Fodder production and pasture improvement as a COVID-19 response measure" project implemented with the support of GIZ and the RA Ministry of Economy.
The purpose of the visit was to present the new approach to arable land improvement, the technology of planting low-yielding, uncultivated areas for ten years or more with the perennial high-value sainfoin. Farmers visited four fields, where they saw sainfoin with well-developed root systems blooming 65-70 days after sowing.
We conducted a comparative discussion between the presented technology and the traditional method. The participants mainly asked about the seeding rate and applied fertilization. The agronomist of "Shen" NGO comprehensively answered all questions.
