Kickboxing Tournament in Davit Bek
On March 23, the 2nd international K1/MMA tournament named after "Sargis Melkumyan" was held in bordering Davit Bek village, Syunik Marz. Representatives of kickboxing clubs of Armenia and Islamic Republic of Iran took part in the competition. Consul of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Abedin Varami, was one of the high-ranking guests invited to the tournament.
The gym of the bordering Davit Bek school was renovated and furnished by the "Shen" NGO with the support of the Orange Foundation back in 2011. Although the physical culture classes of the school's students have been held here for about thirteen years, the school's staff has managed to keep the hall and all the equipment in excellent condition. Moreover, the school was renovated and furnished with new equipment throughout these years.
The school's physical education teacher, who is also a kickboxing coach and a European Kickboxing Champion, started conducting extracurricular kickboxing classes for the youth of Davit Bek and the neighboring Artsvanik village.
In order to organize the tournament, the organizers asked “Shen” NGO for support. Considering the importance of holding a tournament in the bordering village of Davit Bek, as well as the success of the students in this sport, with the support of Chene France, we built the ring in the school's gym. Previously, the organizers used to rent the ring for AMD 200,000-250,000 per day.
The ring would serve the children of Davit Bek and Artsvanik communities for training and would enable them to conduct more professional training and instill interest in sports.
The young people attending the training already participated in this tournament. It was held in a very warm atmosphere. Young people aged 7-16 from Davit Bek, Artsvanik, Kapan, Stepanavan, Yerevan and Iran were recognized as winners in different categories of the tournament. Three of the winners from Davit Bek were young people from Artsakh.
