"Glasses for Armenia" charitable project completed
In March 2023, the "Glasses for Armenia" charitable project launched. This year, our efforts with the Union of Armenian Doctors of France (UMAF) were directed to Shirak marz, specifically to around 30 rural settlements of Ani and Amasia consolidated communities.
Training of nurses
In the first phase of the project, family nurses serving the mentioned settlements, as well as kindergarten nurses, underwent one-day training in March, which was conducted by doctors Petros Ohanian and Levon Artinian from France. Trained nurses conducted initial examinations of children aged 3-15 in their areas. As a result of the examinations, they registered the children with identified visual problems for further examination and, if necessary, provision of glasses.
Examination of children and provision of glasses
The second stage of the project took place on August 21-26 in Amasia and Maralik schools of Shirak region, where about 260 registered children accompanied by their parents were transferred from all 30 rural settlements with Shen's efforts. A professional group of 6 doctors from France carried out a professional examination of children's eyes, as a result of which glasses were prescribed for 181 children. The glasses are made in an optician, from where the parents will receive them for free within a week.
Free glasses for seniors too
Glasses for the elderly were also provided during the project, a total of 380 glasses. The remaining batch of glasses for the elderly will be given to the health centers of Amasya and Maralik for free distribution to the population. Doctors state that an increase in visual problems among children is recorded year by year, which may be due to the high level of children's addiction to telephone and computer games, parents also expressed their concern about it.
