Drinking Water to Lanjik School
In 2024, the 120 students and 30 staff members of the Lanjik School will no longer have a problem with drinking water.
Water supply problem
Lanjik, like other settlements of the Ani consolidated community, gets its drinking water from the only reservoir in the area. However, its capacity is insufficient to provide 936 people with a round-the-clock water supply. The capacity of the newly built reservoir for the village is 150 m³. The water in the reservoir is collected at the expense of gravity water coming from Aragats Mountain. Still, the amount is not enough to fill the reservoir. As a result, water supply in the village is carried out on a special schedule, lasting 3-4 hours every two days.
The Lanjik School was founded in 1902 and has been operating in the current building since 1990. The school is a typical two-story building designed for about 350 students. Currently, the school has 120 students. However, taking into account the state program of consolidation of schools and the increase in the birth rate in the village, it is expected that the number of school children will increase significantly in the coming years.
Solution of water problem
The school has male/female renovated sanitaries, bathrooms with drinking water taps, and sinks on each floor. However, due to the lack of a round-the-clock water supply, the school's internal network and drainage system are almost non-functional. To solve the problem, it is necessary to install water tanks, where the required amount of water will be collected to ensure water supply during classes at school. To deliver the stored water to the students without loss and with appropriate quality, it is also necessary to repair some parts of the internal network and ensure proper drainage conditions.
Generous support from SERPN
All this will become a reality already at the beginning of 2024 thanks to the French organization SERPN. At the end of 2023, at the French Embassy in Armenia, an agreement was signed remotely between the chairman of "Shen" charitable NGO and the president of the SERPN, according to which the latter will provide 3,000 Euros for the installation of water tanks and necessary renovation works.
The work will start at the beginning of the year, and soon, the students of Lanjik School will have the opportunity to receive education in proper conditions.
