Exchange visit to basil plantations

On September 3, 2017, 8 members representing the non-formal group of basil producers from Mets Ayrum community of Lori region visited the basil sown areas in the village of Mrgashat in Armavir region with representative of "SHEN" NGO. Farmers Garnik Mnatsakanyan and Aram Aramyan represented to the participants the peculiarities of basil seed production, the basil production for fresh sale, and spoke about the formation of the prime cost of the final product. During the visit discussions were held on the frequency of irrigation of basil plantations, weeding and cultivation, disease and pest control, sowing and seedling differences, their advantages and disadvantages. This exchange visit was organized in the framework of the "Promoting Inclusive Horticultural Value Chains in Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Moldova" project funded by IFAD.
