Irrigation Water for Vanevan
Vanevan is located 3 km west of Vardenis, in the Gegharkunik region, at an altitude of 1950 m above sea level. The 90 families living in the village are mainly engaged in animal husbandry and field cultivation.
However, due to water scarcity and losses, only 20% of arable land was irrigated, and most household plots were deprived of irrigation.
Thanks to the contribution of Chene France, the “Shen” NGO built a 700 m long water pipeline. The community also contributed to the construction of the water pipeline, providing a certain amount of construction materials and equipment.
As a result, the irrigation volume increased to 60%. This made it possible to bring another 42 ha of land under cultivation, which supplemented the fodder base and increased the livestock population. All families in the village had the opportunity to use irrigation water and expand their households, also receiving a bountiful harvest.
