Lernavan irrigation system put into operation
Lernavan settlement of Spitak consolidated community, Lori marz, with its 1,655 inhabitants, is located in a small valley in the north-western part of the Pambak mountain range. The 425 households of the village are mainly engaged in farming and animal husbandry.
To participate in the government subsidy program in 2022, Spitak consolidated community also applied to repair the Lernavan irrigation water line. The construction of the new water line would make irrigation water available for the settlement's 62 ha of arable land. The subsidy program, however, could be approved only with significant financial participation from the community. For co-financing, the United Nations UNDP/GEF program allocated AMD 16,593,709, which needed to be increased to ensure the required community investment.
The Yalkezian Foundation, a strategic partner of the "Shen" NGO, took over the project's co-financing at the request of the Spitak consolidated community. The state allocated 75,516,000 AMD to implement the project, the "Lernavan" CCIRF - 16,593,709 AMD, and the Yalkezian Foundation invested the remaining 15,770,291 AMD. Spitak consolidated the community, and the population of Lernavan also participated in the project.
On March 16, the irrigation system was successfully launched in the presence of the community's residents, the head of the Spitak community, and the Lori office representative of "Shen" NGO.
