A First for Armenia: “Shen” Demonstrates Drone-Based Seed Sowing
Modern technology is opening up new possibilities for agriculture in Armenia. On October 18, 2026, “Shen” NGO carried out Armenia’s first demonstration of drone-based seed sowing, using its DJI Agras T50 agricultural drone.
The first practical trial took place at the ICARE Foundation’s Zabel Yessayan Agribusiness Center (ZYAC) in Proshyan, Kotayk Province. Sainfoin seeds were sown by drone in the center’s orchard. The demonstration also showcased autonomous flight and spraying capabilities.
The event marked the start of the practical implementation phase of Shen’s agricultural drone initiative. The technology has the potential to improve the efficiency of farm operations and support more targeted use of resources. Upcoming field trials will help assess its performance under local conditions.
“Shen” NGO acquired the DJI Agras T50 drone used in the trial through its pilot project to introduce agricultural drones. The German organization Brot für die Welt (Bread for the World) funds the project.
Further demonstrations are also planned for Armenian farmers, offering opportunities to explore the technology and consider how it could be used on their own farms.
For Shen, this is an exciting beginning: putting innovation into practice and working to make modern agricultural technologies more accessible to Armenia’s rural communities.
