GIZ Delegation Visiting Balak
On July 7, 2023, Madeleine Rauschenberger, the Country Director of GIZ Office Armenia, and Christian Henschel, the EU4Sevan: Environmental Protection of Lake Sevan project Team Leader, visited the Balak settlement of Sisian consolidated community.
During the visit, they had a meeting with the members of the Balak Pasture Users cooperative within the framework of the "Fodder production demo village - reactivation of non-cultivated arable lands" project implemented with the support of GIZ and got acquainted with the repair works of the seed refining workshop.
Madeleine Rauschenberger and Christian Henschel also visited the fields cultivated with the technologies offered by the specialists of "Shen" NGO.
The members of the cooperative again emphasized the importance of the project in terms of cultivation of local varieties of alfalfa, sainfoin, and barley, seed production, creation of fodder base, reduction of pressure on pastures, as well as obtaining additional incomes from livestock.
Along with all these positive aspects, the program has created an opportunity to effectively cultivate arable lands that have not been used for years. As a result, it is possible to prevent their degradation, contribute to the improvement of quality characteristics and increase fertility.
